I mean, I still don’t like it, so don’t go singing praises or dancing like it’s the coming of the Messiah or some shit, but I don’t hate this version. So, I’m sure you’re all wondering if I still hate the game and vomit hate-infused blood at the sight of it. I had a feeling this review would wind up being shorter than most others I’ve done, but let’s face it, it’s a review of a game that fixed the major problem I initially had. The guns still sound like they should, the Plagas still speak Spanish, without subtitles unfortunately, and, aside from some hammy voice acting and writing, the voicing isn’t too bad. The sound seems to be unchanged in any significant way.
In the end, the game looks great for hitting the ten year mark! The only other thing is that the Special 2 costume doesn’t show up during cutscenes, but considering I probably won’t play the game enough to unlock it, or even Special 1, it’s a moot point for me. I can’t really think of much else to say when it comes to graphics, the game looks awesome. The HD touch ups look really nice, too, but as I understand it, they’re still using the old cutscenes, so those don’t look early as good. What I have seen of it from trailers and Youtube videos looks absolutely amazing, though. Unfortunately, I can’t comment on the 60 FPS setting because I have the slow-motion issue when it’s enabled. So, the controls are better, but the story still falls short. I’ve wanted so badly to love this game for over a decade now, but have been disappointed at every turn due to sloppy design and lack of modernization. I know, one or two of you are thinking, “Now, he’s just looking for things to hate on with this game!” Well, maybe. Yes, Leon getting a dose of the plagas was a neat addition, but RE3 beat it out with Jill and her brush with the T-Virus. Let’s face it, the story of RE4 was never really that great. I think it’s got to do with the fact that RE4, and subsequent entries, are such a far departure from the first four games in terms of story, gameplay, and atmosphere that I just don’t find it as interesting. Looking for things to like about this game.Īs many times as I’ve tried to play this game over the years on various consoles, one continual issue I’ve had, aside from the god awful controls of the other versions, is that I just can’t get invested in what’s going on.
